For several years, there has been much whinging about the quality of the Homecoming concert acts at UA. Okay, one year we got Lynyrd Skynyrd, but that was before my or possibly anyone but a few grad students' time, and it was a fluke anyway. Also, I think they're like, required by law to not turn us down or something. One of the main concerns has been that the students don't get enough say in picking the act.

So UP just sent out a poll thing, where students are encouraged to send in the name of a performer they would like to see sing at Homecoming, and the top twenty will be compiled into a list they can call. UP will send in the names of the performers that refuse to the Crimson White, to back up their argument of, See, no one wants to come to our crappy campus.

Can anyone else see the problems with this plan? Because I can.

1. There are something like 20,000 students at UA, which means they'll get approximately 15,000 different responses to their little survey, which should be fun to sort through.
2. This means that their top twenty list will consist of bands that got 20 votes each.
3. By the time they finish wading through all that complex mess, all the good acts will have plans.

So I have what I think is a better idea. How about if UP starts calling around now and finds twenty performers/bands that are free and willing to perform for whatever we're able to pay, and gives us that list to choose from?

Or would that make too much sense?

What does one have to do to work in UP, anyway? Is it an SGA thing? Because I will totally join a sorority if it'll give me a chance to smack sense into those morons.
