Mar. 17th, 2006 12:22 amMy Russian professor loaned me his copy of Night Watch because I was gushing about it so much. And, after a brief confusion with my inability to find the English subtitles, OMG I am loving this movie. It's so brutal and so beautifully done. There are some incredible visuals.
It won for creepy in the first ten minutes, when this little figurine sprouted tarantula legs and started rampaging. I was like, "EEEEEEEEK!" And then vampire dude started swigging vodka straight from the bottle, and it is now officially a Russian movie. Quite bloodily violent, but then it's about the supernatural police. And they're driving around in a power company truck with, like, rocket engines, and vampire cop guy is like, "Night Watch. Step out of the gloom," all dramatical, and then ( spoiler? )
The special effects in this movie kick ass. They really look real, and even when they don't really look real, it's presented in such an almost dreamlike way that you totally buy it.
SO AWESOME.
Yeah, so I'm going to get back to my movie now.
EDIT: Something about Anton, AKA 'vampire cop dude' reminded me of Jensen Ackles in some shots and of Clive Owen in others. Which I suppose you can translate as 'God I love this movie and when is part two?'
