OMG! OMG! *bounces* I may have just spontaneously orgasmed.

For more than a century, it has caused excitement and frustration in equal measure...

Okay, so, yes, let's review. Ancient papyri, including Greek and Roman works and henceforth unknown early Christian gospels, were found in an ancient rubbish dumb in Egypt, but were so blackened and damaged no one could read them. Until now, when an advancement in photography has made them legible.

This is...this is WOW.

*quietly hopes next rubbish dump will contain full text of the Achilles trilogy (which some believe was destroyed by monks who objected to the Achilles/Patroklos relationship contained therein)* Aah, screw quiet. C'MON, MYRMIDONS!

P.S. My mom watches The Daily Show. I am deeply amused, and am debating whether or not to give her my extra copy of America: The Book.

"one man's trash is another man's treasure"

Personally, I hope they all stay in the dump...they were put there for a reason...

Surprisingly enough, no. All this will do is create even more reading for those of us who are forced to take those classes. But I will say that the technological advances that are allowing scientists to read these things is kinda cool.

And what about people like me who are genuinely excited about the new works they're deciphering?

Don't tell me, you're happy about the library at Alexandria.

Burn, baby, Burn! Just kidding! :)

I think that from a historical standpoint, the recently found works are somewhat intriguing, but I’m hating on literature right now, so from a literary standpoint…well…you already know my stance…

Regarding the question about those of you who are excited about the new works: To each his (or her!) own! I wish you well, and as long as I am never forced to read them then I am content! :)

Off subject - Are you going to Russian Club tomorrow?

I remember when I was wee and some geeky child story I read made reference to the Myrmidons. I didn't know what they were, so I did research. At that time, there were only like three lines in existence. Then they found the rest of the fifty-four they have now inside a mummy case and I was like...WOW.

Based on my early geekery, my parents are still a little surprised I didn't stick with anthropology or history. Or even classical studies. But it's a bit late in the game to change majors again now.
