The What the Hell am I Supposed to Do After College List, Part 1

1. Join the military.
Pros
Pays well
Opportunity to travel
Will pay for graduate school
They'll tell me what to do

Cons
It's the military.
I might be shot.

2. Apply to teach in Clark County, Nevada.
Pros
They will provide the training necessary for licensing
Thanks to the neverending teacher shortage, pays fairly well
Could live in Vegas

Cons
Have you seen CSI?
Am not sure I'm cut out to be a teacher.

3. Law School.
Pros
Become a lawyer, which pays well.
Become a lawyer, which means arguing with people. I'm good at that.

Cons
More school.
Will probably have to take out loans to pay for more school.
I don't actually know if I want to be a lawyer.

4. Librarian school.
Pros
I like books. A lot.
I could make people be quiet.

Cons
Doesn't pay as well as most of the other options.
Would have to let other people take the books.
More school.

5. Run away to Australia.
Pros
Could see kangaroos.
Wouldn't have to worry about that pesky responsibility and becoming an adult stuff.

Cons
Is on the other side of the world.
Would probably have to get a job to support myself in Australia, which brings us back to the beginning.

If you're gonna join the military, I'd highly, highly recommend the Air Force because the chances of you getting shot at are slim to none compared to the other branches of the armed forces.

**As a side note...if you really are interested in joing the military, I've been in/around the culture my entire life, so if you want someone to talk to about it, I'd be more than happy to do so!**

Yeah, I was actually looking at the Air Force. Possibly in combination with the law school thing, and then joining the JAG.

Don't join the military. Didn't we go over that boot camp thing already? But even besides that, I would highly, highly recommend that you do NOT do anything major and potentially lifechanging when you're not sure when you want to do, and you're only doing it to do anything at all. In that I'd lump the military and any graduate school. I say apply to teach, run away to a foreign country and teach English, join the Peace Corp, run away to the North and charm people with your accent, but don't do anything untakebackable (nice word, huh?) for at least a year.
