I Need Advice

My cell phone, the little tank that it is, is dying after three years of faithful service. It's developed a distressing tendency to conk out on me when it claims it has full power, usually in the middle of phone calls.

So I need a new phone. But I know nothing about phones; cell phone technology has jumped since I got mine. I think that whole taking pictures thing is cool, and voicemail would be really, really cool, since this is my only phone line. My plan is with Cingular, and for a lot of reasons I won't go into right now, I can't switch, if that makes any difference as to what kind of phone I can get.

Tell me about cell phones, please.

I also need a new cel phone. I have nothing of value to tell you, other than voicemail rocks. I have Cingular as well, and I think I might get the RAZR phone.

One thing I don't understand about some cels is the whole walkie-talkie option (or whatever techie term it is). What's the point? Why not just call the person?

Dude, those walkie-talkie things are evil. When I lived in the dorms, one of the girls we shared a wall with had one, and it was constantly beep-beeping and waking us up at like three AM.

All the "important" people have them at my workplace. The guy in the office next to mine is constantly on his landline while his cel is BEEPBEEPing. We usually have to go shut his door because we're slowly pulling our hair out.

Well, Cingular has both the very cool RAZR phone and the new iTunes phone, so if either of those sound cool, you could get one -- they're both on the pricey side, though. But other than that, they're all basically the same -- it's all about size and battery life (the smaller of the former and the bigger of the latter makes them more expensive).
