sadlikeknives: (i can kill you with my brain)

I hate the first week of school.

Yesterday went fine, and so did this morning--up to a point. I got to my eight o'clock class on time, and then TR is in my second Tuesday-Thursday class, Modern Russian Lit. When it got out, we started chatting, and she was bemoaning that she's having to take a creative writing class at eight AM because nothing else fit her schedule. My first reaction was, "Yeah, well, I'm in an eight o'clock class, too, so suck it up," but then I said, "Oh, hey, I've got that African-American women's lit class next, and you don't have anything else. Why aren't you in there?"

She remembered that she was going to take it and didn't for some reason, and we hypothesized that it had filled up, so she came with me to see if she could beg her way in, because it would be better than creative writing at eight AM. We sat around and chatted with the other people around us--both of us mentioning that we were senior English majors--until the professor showed up ten minutes late and was a Caucasian man.

Now, while it is certainly conceivable that a white man might be teaching a class on African-American women's lit, the name of the professor on my schedule was definitely female, so I realized right away I was in the wrong class, but stuck around just in case this guy happened to be 'Yolanda,' in which case this was going to be one wacky class. When he asked if everyone had passed 101 yet, TR and I basically went, "Crap," and started gathering our things to go. Because this was Freshman Comp 102. I was kind of amazed that mine and TR's being English majors and seniors had passed without comment, until I realized that little freshpeople probably don't realize yet that it's not physically possible to be a senior English major and not have passed English 102. Hell, it's not really possible to be an anything major in Arts & Sciences and not have passed 102, because the core requirements include higher-level writing classes, and those all have 101 and 102 as prerequisites.

So we made our apologies and fled, then checked my schedule again. Morgan 101, 11:00. We were in the right place, right time. So we trooped over to the office and asked them what was up. They checked the computer and said the class was in another building, same room number, so we trooped over there. The room was abandoned, but the room next door was full, so we slipped in there.

It was another freaking section of 102.

At this point, we were leaving nothing to chance, so we headed to the computer lab and looked up the class for our own damned selves, and when it came up, we finally remembered why TR hadn't registered it. The class had originally been scheduled for 11:00, but there had been a time change. It's now at 3:00 (she has a class then), and has been since before I registered for it. However, my schedule, printed out less than a week ago, had the original time and room number on it for some ungodly reason, and I guess I was just dumb enough to trust it had been moved back.

So now I'm killing time until my next class actually starts. I should probably eat something at some point.

This nonsense right here is why I'm going into HEA. Someone has to fix this stuff.

So how's your day been?

Relatively uneventful, for a change. Perhaps I should pass that along to you, yes?
