So Damn Cold

sadlikeknivesThe power went out this morning around six-thirty and came back on...I don't know, I think it was around four. I wasn't here. At around nine I said 'screw this' and headed off to take care of some moving-related stuffs. You might think this wouldn't be so bad, as this is Alabama, home of superhot summers and mildly coolish winters, but today the high was forty freaking degrees.
I move out on Monday! This is very exciting. There are a few problems, though, in that my parents have decided they like some of my stuff and want to keep it (TV, TV stand, coffee table), threw away some other stuff while I was in California (desk chair), and accidentally gave away more stuff (end tables, mattress). And my armchair has been beaten up by some cat or other and desperately needs reupholstering. So all in all, I'm down like half of my furniture. Some of it, my parents have agreed to pay to replace. Like, I can't not have a freaking mattress. Some of it, they are willing to replace with their stuff, like the TV, but, well, their spare TV is not as good as my TV, that's kind of the point.
And I'm keeping the coffee table. They can buy their own damn coffee table.
The armchair was supposed to be redone months ago, but my mother decided she was going to get so-and-so to do it who can reupholster instead of an actual professional, so I said, "Fine, I don't know so-and-so, here's the fabric and you can arrange it," and she is horrible about putting things off. We didn't host Thanksgiving because we were going to be doing some work in our kitchen, work that has not yet started. And she hasn't had a haircut in like six months, despite various family members offering to call the salon and make the appointment for her. Le sigh.
