I'm Not Left-Handed, Either!
Apr. 12th, 2004 10:14 pmI've been thinking about The Princess Bride a lot. I feel that the Man in Black is a genuinely different character than Westley...that mask changes him. Kinda like Batman. The Man in Black is calm, focused. He can do no wrong. Westley is somewhat better-educated than he was the last time we saw him, but he's still a lovestruck farmboy. We get more of the Westley personality when Buttercup is involved. In his interactions with other characters, he's usually pure Man in Black. So then I started wondering what characters are Westley-like, and what characters are Man in Black-like?
...Don't look at me for answers. I'm asking you.
Since Westley/The Man in Black truly believed that Buttercup didn't give a fuck about him and loved the prince, why did he come to her rescue in the first place? And what exactly was he planning to do with her once he'd found her? Hmm.
