Once More, With Feeling
May. 4th, 2004 12:42 amLet's try this again. I went and took a shower, and now I'm a little more coherent. Still mourning, but coherent. Oh, my poor team. They fought so hard. Well, this game. Where the hell was this play on Saturday? We could've had it if they'd been like this all along.
Now I'll remove my white-and-red nail polish and hang up my jersey until at least the fall. The player whose name's on the back, Steve Yzerman, may never play NHL hockey again. That won't matter as far as that goes; I'd still wear it. He's a legend. There are things that may make it different, though.
For one thing, the season may not start as scheduled due to the Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations. Hopefully, they'll get their ducks in order before too much of a delay occurs--otherwise, NHL players can't go to the Olympics. Which would suck. Also, if they don't get it sorted out quickly, the All-Star game in Atlanta won't go off as scheduled. And it has to, because it's in Atlanta, and this girl'll be there if she has to skip every class she has and commit felonies to get there.
For another, Detroit may not be the same team next year. A lot of their guys aren't contracted for next season, and there have been murmurs all along of heavy restructuring if Detroit got knocked out of the playoffs early. And if Stevie Y's not there, too...well. I'm not a Detroit girl. I have no city or state loyalty guiding me. If I were going by region, I'd be yellin' for the Preds or the Thrashers. I come out for the people. If they're gone, I may jump ship and see about getting a St. Louis jersey. Go Tampa!
But right now...dammit. Why did they have to lose?
